When reading the ghost stories aloud make sure you choose someone who can create dramatic tension in their voice as this will add a spookier delivery to your ghost stories. You can also introduce the use of props to make the stories more believable especially for the younger guests. Whether you decide to tell the tale of a legend that is true or whether you make up your own frightful story you are sure to spook your guests with a Halloween party to remember.
Ghostly Bloody Mary Urban Legend
Nearly everyone has heard of the bloody Mary urban legend. The story varies from place to place but the legend goes roughly along the same story line. Legend has it that if you go into a darkened room at night with a candle and a mirror you can call upon the vengeful spirit of bloody Mary. Begin by sitting in front of the mirror and lighting the candle, it is said that if you chant the words “Bloody Mary” thirteen times the ghostly image of bloody Mary will appear over your left shoulder after the thirteenth time. Be careful though as the ghostly apparition has reportedly done things like pull the person into the mirror, drives them to the point of insanity or even kills them. Whether this is true or not it’s well worth using a mirror and lit candle as a prop to completely scare your party guests.
Buried Alive Urban Legend
Being buried alive is probably one of the biggest fears for everyone, how would you like to wake up in a tiny claustrophobic coffin six feet under with no means of escape, and just having to wait for death. This unfortunately is not far from the truth back in the 18th and 19th centuries. The lack of medical knowledge and poorly educated doctors meant that in some rare cases they could not tell if a person was alive or dead. In a so called case of being buried alive from the late 1800s a girl suddenly collapsed as was pronounced dead by the doctor who examined her. Her body was laid to rest in a cemetery until years later when her coffin was exhumed with intention of moving it to a new burial site. A gruesome discovery was made, the girl had actually been buried alive. The distorted body of the girl was found curled up in the coffin showing signs of dreadful suffering. The coffin itself had scratch marks gouged into the wood caused by the girl’s fingernails in a desperate attempt to claw herself free from her premature grave. This gruesome story is enough to ignite your guests fears of being buried alive.
