Many companies are now making coloured contact lenses in prescriptions, which means that short- and long-sighted people can wear coloured contacts too. If you want to wear prescription coloured lenses you will first need to get your contact lenses prescription. This is different to a prescription you may have for glasses, so if you normally wear glasses you will need to get a brand new prescription.
You can get your contact lenses prescription from your optician – just ask for a contact lens fitting and tell them that you want to wear lenses in the future. You optician will give you a full eye test and lens fitting, after which you can ask for a copy of the prescription. This prescription needs to be updated at least every two years, so make sure yours is up to date. Some opticians may be reluctant to give you a copy unless you are buying their lenses but as long as you explain that you just want to shop around they should be happy to give you a copy. Your optician will also be able to show you how to put in lenses and answer any concerns you have.
How To Buy Prescription Contact Lenses
Once you have your prescription you can use it to buy coloured prescription contact lenses. Buying them is simple and most online stores have a similar system that allows you to choose the ‘power’ of your contact lenses. All corrective contact lenses have a power, which indicates how strong they are. Some people have the same power for both eyes, some people have two different powers. You will be able to find the powers written on your prescription. Once you know them, select the correct power from the contact lens store. Make sure you get the exact power – wearing the wrong power, even if it looks similar, can damage your eyes and will not give you clear vision. Once you are happy with your lenses be sure to stock up on a new contact lens case and lens solution, so you can keep them nice and clean. And it’s as simple as that!
